Boat Chowder

Quahog Chowder

There are certain foods that remind me of good times, or that I will gladly defend with kitchen knives swinging. I find this in the Steamship Authority's quahog clam chowder on the ferry to and from Martha's Vineyard. I should ask them where it's from or who makes it because, in all honestly, it's not terribly exceptional or distinctive. However, it's good. Really good. But it's about more than taste. That overpriced paper cup of soup is enjoyed on a 45 minute ferry ride between the chaos that is Cape Cod and the bliss that awaits. Naturally then, it somehow tastes better on the way over than on the way back. Either it's the return home that ruins it, or the countless quahogs on the half shell enjoyed while there.

More on delicious seafood in future posts.

I want this blog to be about good food that is good for you (physically- or at least mentally). I love knowing where my food came from, it's many benefits, or its unique story. And while I may never know the complete details behind the Steamship Authority's chowder, it represents a passage over to some of the best, freshest seafood in the world, and some of my most favorite memories.
